Avnet Partner Solutions has become the first local distributor of NetApp storage.
The NetApp suite includes its V-series virtual storage solutions and NearStore data storage protection and retention applications. Managing director, Colin McKenna, said the addition of NetApp further strengthened its storage portfolio. Avnet recently won the rights to CommVault's QiNetix suite. The companies have an existing relationship in the US.
"It really is complementary. With CommVault we have unified data management as well as primary, secondary and tertiary storage. NetApp brings a very extensive range of capabilities," he said. "We previously sold a server with storage attached to it, and we intend to continue that. But what we also want to build is a focused storage practice."
McKenna would aim the NetApp range towards the SMB market. He hoped to appoint more resellers and integrators.
Avnet is currently constructing a partner development program to offer technical and sales training. To help achieve its goals, Avnet has recruited Steven Manley to the newly created role of storage business development manager.
Newly appointed NetApp managing director, Peter O'Connor, said order volumes meant the time was right to appoint a distributor.
"Avnet was an easy choice for us because we have had a three-year relationship in the US," he said. "We are aiming at all markets but we would like to get some more traction in government and manufacturing."
NetApp recently launched a reseller VIP program of training, certifications, rebates and co-operative marketing. It is split in two segments with six gold and 12 preferred partners.
"It is all about getting our channel partners motivated and helping them generate qualified leads," O'Connor said. "NetApp has done the majority of its business direct. Part of my charter is to get about the channel business much more seriously than we have in the past."
