CPA feeds demand for accounting-savvy IT consultants

Increasing demand for e-business solutions has inspired the addition of an IT accreditation to the Certified Practicing Accountants Australia (CPA) program.

With thousands of CPA members specifying their primary or key role in IT rather than accounting David Edwards, CEO of CPA Australia, says the accreditation is designed for CPA members who spend most of their week working in IT related fields or IT resellers who have extensive accounting expertise.

"e-business is driving the most sweeping change in the corporate landscape in years but it has led to a massive demand for IT staff with commercial understanding," Edwards said. "The primary concern of businesses branching into e-commerce is finding commercial understanding to complement their technological ideas and the IT specialist accreditation provides a path for our members to become recognised experts in this area."

Despite the stringent requirement for a minimum of three years senior-level experience in the IT industry, CPA expects thousands of its members to apply for the IT specialist designation. Guidelines for the IT specialist accreditation are outlined on the CPA Web site www.cpaonline.com.au
