Peripherals manufacturer and wholesaler Swann Communications has signed Ingram Micro to distribute its product range in Australia and the UK.
Ingram Micro will distribute a range of Swann products including FireWire cards, modems and a range of SpyCam Micro video cameras. The products are already available from the distributor. To mark the deal, Ingram Micro has launched the SwannSmart Turbo modem and will introduce the SwannSmart II to resellers this month.
The appointment marks a new marketing strategy for the Australian, family-owned company which previously handled its own distribution. Marketing director Sophie Swann said the deal would help the company expand its operations both in Australia and overseas.
"It was becoming too difficult to handle the distribution ourselves," Swann told ARN. "We didn't have the resources to do orders for ones and twos. So the arrangement with Ingram Micro suits us to a T - especially with the international factor."
Swann Communications is currently in talks with the US arm of the multinational distributor to help its American operations. "Swann has been operating an office in the US since January this year," Swann said. "We are quite good at getting to the big retailers ourselves, but we need Ingram Micro to help us grow in the market."
Swann Communications is currently looking for venture capital funding and may consider a future IPO, Swann said.
