Manaccom sizes up retail markets

Quicken and MYOB may have the lion's share of the Australian small business accounting software market, but Brisbane-based software publisher/distributor Manaccom isn't giving up on playing a significant role in the game.

Manaccom's Soft IT-developed Instant range of products registered a 2 per cent national market share in just a year since its launch, according to channel research company Inform's most recent survey.

According to James Mackay, Manaccom's business development manager, that is a great result and he expects the latest version of the product (now available) to push market share towards a goal of 11 per cent.

Mackay suggests this will be achieved by attracting resellers looking for better margins. Other contributing factors he sees are the combination of the four Instant products into one suite and its ability to quickly and efficiently generate business activity statements (BASs).

Because Manaccom only distributes products it has exclusive rights to, it is able to offer better margins than those which are available on most software, Mackay said.

"The resellers' margins are being squeezed everywhere, but ours are not being squeezed at all," Mackay said. "Nothing goes out our door without a minimum of 25 per cent margin for the reseller."

The new Instant Suite retails for $300 with the individual modules available for $99 each. Manaccom mainly distributes retail box-type products to the mass merchant and dealer channels, although Mackay said increasing amounts of business is being secured in enterprise-licensing agreements and value-added services.
