Neville Buch joins 'head kickers' at Solution 6

Neville Buch has joined the ranks of Solution 6 as managing director of Australian operations, the latest tool in the corporate restructure outlined last week by CEO, Neil Gamble.

Recruited from Gamble's former haunt, Wormald Australia, Buch will oversee all business operations in Australia including the core accounting business, acquisitions such as Exonet, Alphawest and the ASP business platform (Centrum) as well as marketing and human resources.

The plan is to pass the day-to-day operations to Buch to allow Gamble to focus on the overall business strategy. "It will reduce the number of business reports that Neil will have to attend to and let him get back to a customer orientation," said Mark Elliot, Solution 6 communications director.

Last week, on the back of a first quarter loss of $3 million, Gamble expressed concern that 80 per cent of the group's revenue was generated by nine products, leaving a further 72 operating at a loss. He specified an aggressive move to refocus the core business, hinting that products falling outside this definition would be sold off. Since then, telemarketing service DCT has been named as the first one off the block with the sale of agreement already signed.

After making 15 acquisitions in the last 24 months, the Solution 6 group has created a cumbersome central operation which Gamble says needs to be broken up and regionalised. His plan is to regain customer focus and get resources back on the ground by making managers responsible for the bottom lines of their business units. This means increased dollar counting and instigating performance-based wages.
