NEWS FLASH: Compaq drinks Sweetwater

Compaq Australia is expected to reveal details of its newest channel partner tomorrow in a move that's expected to raise more than a few eyebrows in the industry.

A Compaq spokesperson confirmed late today it has appointed Sweetwater Technology, which ARN has discovered was formed by channel identity Abbas Aly and his distribution outfit Triforce.

A search on NetRegistry for revealed this domain is owned by Triforce.

When contacted by ARN, Aly declined to detail the company's plans until tomorrow, but did describe the new company as an "aggregator".

"It's a new type of concept they [Compaq] are putting together," he said.

Aly's last foray reported in the media was earlier this year when he pulled the plug on his ISP business FreeNet in order to concentrate on Triforce's hardware distribution operations. And earlier this month, national ISP Netspace Online Systems offered abandoned FreeNet customers a seamless transition to its service, at a price.

Compaq's general manager, business and consumer, Greg Healy, is expected to detail Compaq's Sweetwater agreement in an interview with ARN tomorrow morning..

More details to follow.
