The anticipation of Sony's PlayStation 2 has not only affected retailers. The video industry is now caught up in the console hype and shortage. Distributor All Interactive reports it cannot meet demand for the gaming station amongst its 2000 odd clients.
"All [of them] want a couple of machines for sale or rental and it has been very difficult to assign the products," said hardware product manager Dan Desnica. "We have had to assign consoles on an account dollar value and try to keep as many people happy as possible."
Desnica said the new console should provide a popular rental product, provided more machines will become available. The new gaming titles should also rent very well, he said.
