Multimedia product distributor Lako Vision, a subsidiary of Pineapplehead, has announced a new Pacific-wide distribution contract with Web streaming specialists ViewCast.com.
Lako Vision has signed an open-ended distribution group to carry the Osprey-500 product family, designed for the capture of broadcast-quality digital video for streaming media. Microsoft has optimised the product exclusively for the Windows media format, and it has also been endorsed by RealNetworks for the RealSystem 8 product.
"It's a new market, but we see big opportunities as bandwidth becomes available and more Australians look into broadband," said Lako Vision business development manager Nicolas Jouan. "It is only a very small portion of our business at present, but it will grow dramatically in the next year or so."
Jouan is particularly confident about the products' potential when considering Microsoft's and RealNetworks' support. "They are number one in their field," he said. "It is the right horse to ride to be a success in this area."
He believes the product has a wide range of applications and there is a wide base of resellers and users who will use it. At the moment Jouan sees the biggest markets as being those industries where companies broadcast or record sensitive information, such as finance and security.
