Computer Associates recently extended its support for open-source software, introducing a version of Unicenter TNG that not only can be used to manage Linux networks but can also run on Linux machines.
Unicenter TNG 2.4 can run on Linux distributions from Caldera Systems, Red Hat, Suse GmBH and TurboLinux.
Customers can get started with Unicenter TNG by securing a free, no frills framework version of the software that includes enterprise discovery, event management, virus detection and other features.
Also new in Unicenter TNG 2.4 is technology designed to make it easier for management service providers (MSP) to roll out offerings based on CA's software. Among other things, the software lets MSPs manage customers' networks across firewalls.
Version 2.4 of CA's software also includes better support for Windows 2000, more database and application management features, and enhanced storage area network support.
Pricing for Unicenter starts at $US2500 per server.
