Security services provider eSec has been appointed as the first 'Gold Reseller' of Nokia security products in Asia-Pacific.
The reseller move is a first for eSec, who has traditionally been entirely services focused, and gives the company a small window of opportunity as the first reseller under Nokia's highest accreditation. eSec will market Nokia's appliances, bundled with firewall products from Check Point Software, Intrusion detection software from Internet Security Systems, and anti-virus software from Network Associates. On top of this, eSec will wrap its traditional management and monitoring services.
"Not only will we be supplying a product line as a reseller, but we can package our monitoring and management services around them," said eSec chief executive officer Saxon Hill.
Hill said Nokia Internet Communications holds a 33 per cent share of the high-end Virtual Private Network application market, ahead of both Cisco and Nortel. Subsequently, Hill believes that making a name for his company with this suite of products is a significant move. "It is a big step for us to play such an important role in the Nokia channel," he said.
But Hill admits the margins on reselling the Nokia appliances is unlikely to ever match the company's services revenues.
"To be blunt, we're not phased about making margins on product," he said. "Where eSec will make money is through the Service-Level Agreements we sell with the Nokia appliances."
