Dick Smith opens new PowerHouse

Dick Smith Electronics has opened its eighth PowerHouse store at Warringah Mall in Brookvale.

The 2000 square metre store is around six times the size of an average Dick Smith store and will showcase around 30,000 products.

According to Dick Smith Electronics managing director Jeff Grover, Warringah Mall represents a major retailing centre for computer and electronics sales.

"PowerHouse stores are an important part of our company's growth strategy and it is great to secure this prime location."

The store will focus on the convergence of consumer technology and will be encouraged to play with the products. The new PowerHouse is divided into four zones -- electronics, entertainment, communications and computers.

"Everything at a Dick Smith Electronics PowerHouse is plugged in, powered up and fully tuned for our customers to try out."

The computer zone features PC and notebooks from the likes of Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Compaq and Toshiba. In many cases, the computers are hooked up to printers and peripherals with various software running for customers to try out. Customers can also use the various Internet bars located around the store.

A new computer upgrade centre is also located within the store where staff can give advice on the hardware and software needed to upgrade existing systems.

According to the company, the PowerHouse store concept will continue its expansion throughout NSW and Victoria. The company already has stores at Bankstown, Penrith, North Ryde, North Parramatta and Moore Park. But it is keen to point out that it will still maintain its smaller stores.

"The PowerHouse concept is another facet in our overall retail strategy," the company said in a statement. "Dick Smith Electronics will continue its commitment to the 97 regular stores that are situated throughout Australia."
