With the increasing overlap of functions between PDAs and mobile phones, a poll of Express Online customers has found that resellers are divided on which technology presents the greater opportunity.
But Express Online is backing PDAs with its latest vendor addition. The distributor has just taken on Palm’s full product range.
Express Online general manager, David Gage, said that a recent survey of its customers had shown 90 per cent wanted Express to increase its PDA range.
“Fifty-five per cent of respondents indicated that they would be selling Palm during the next 12 months,” Gage said. HP, Palm and Toshiba PDAs were listed as the brands most likely to be sold over the next 12 months.
The July survey, completed by 340 Express Online resellers, showed that the majority (53 per cent) sold PDAs, while only 20 per cent currently sold handsets.
A fraction more resellers (52 per cent)believed that data-enabled mobile phones provided a greater growth opportunity than voice-enabled PDAs(48 per cent).
While more than half of the resellers surveyed expected to sell more handsets in the next 12 months, 31 per cent said they would not consider selling handsets in the next year.
