Alcatel finds local CEO replacement

Networking vendor, Alcatel, has found a replacement for long time chief executive officer, Ross Fowler, who was poached by rival Cisco Systems in August.

The vendor will pull Andrew Young, currently president of Alcatel Shanghai Bell, from his post in China and return him to Australia to fill the position of chief executive officer, Alcatel Australia.

Young will be familiar to many resellers in Alcatel’s channel. He was the head of Alcatel Australia’s Enterprise business for 12 months from 1998-1999 and worked in several other management roles with the vendor’s local operations.

An Alcatel spokesperson said that running the enterprise business involved an intimate understanding of the vendor’s large channel partners.

Ross Fowler took over this position (head of enterprise business) when Young moved to Asia to take on some new opportunities. Fowler later went on to become CEO.

As well as starting up the Chinese operation (Alcatel Shanghai Bell), Young’s stint in Asia included the role of President of Alcatel, Taiwan.
