This powerful new solution will automatically filter out unwanted email and block online advertisements. Unlike other spam filters, the trainable filtering engine in Norton AntiSpam 2004 will be able to learn what is and isn’t spam by analysing the user’s outgoing email messages. An intuitive user interface, automatic setup and updating, and effective ad-blocking technology will ensure that users are protected right out of the box from unwanted email and invasive online ads.

Scheduled for mid-September availability, Norton AntiSpam 2004 will immediately start to filter email once it is installed and turned on. Norton AntiSpam 2004 will work by automatically intercepting and analysing email in standard POP3 connections and marking spam as it comes into the user’s in-box. Norton AntiSpam 2004 will integrate tightly with the latest versions of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express and Eudora by automatically creating a spam folder and using it to collect all email identified as spam. Norton AntiSpam 2004 will even filter spam from Hotmail and MSN Mail when messages are retrieved through Microsoft Outlook. As a result, users will not only begin to save time but they will also be protected from any misleading or inappropriate content that might be contained in spam. Norton AntiSpam 2004 will further enhance users’ online experiences by keeping banner ads, pop-up windows, and other Web distractions off the user’s screen.
Norton AntiSpam 2004 will offer multiple filtering layers to reduce the time-consuming occurrence of false positives that typically plague other spam-fighting products. An Allowed List capability will protect friendly email from being marked accidentally as spam. An intuitive configuration wizard will make it easy to import the user’s address book into their Allowed List. In addition, a Trusted Mode feature will enable users to set up Norton AntiSpam 2004 to accept email only from approved senders, while a user-configurable Blocked List will identify specific email addresses as spammers. The intelligent filtering engine of Norton AntiSpam 2004 will learn to differentiate between spam and legitimate email by analysing the user’s outgoing messages.
Norton AntiSpam 2004 will include automatic LiveUpdate to ensure that users are protected against the latest spam threats by checking for new protection updates whenever the user is online-without requiring user intervention. Updates will be unobtrusively downloaded in the background to guard user productivity. In addition, to protect users from pirated or counterfeit software, Norton AntiSpam 2004 will include a product activation component.
Automatic integration of Norton AntiSpam 2004 with Symantec’s Norton AntiVirus 2004 and Norton Personal Firewall 2004 will offer additional protection against Internet privacy threats, security risks, and viruses. Norton AntiSpam 2004 will be available as a single license, as well as in 5- and 10-user packs for small offices.
Pricing and Availability
Norton AntiSpam 2004, which includes 12 months of protection updates, is available mid September for an estimated retail price of AUD$79.95. Norton AntiSpam 2004 5- and 10-user packs have an estimated price of AUD$239.95 and AUD$479.95, respectively. Norton AntiSpam 2004 is expected to be available for purchase in mid-September at various retail locations, the Symantec online store at www.symantec.com.au, as well as other online retailers.
