Intel has released new processors specifically designed for mobile phones and wireless PDAs. Based on XScale technology, the chips are designed to handle multiple forms of wireless broadband access while still providing mobile phones with full motion videoconferencing capabilities and PDAs with DVD-quality video playback. The chip integrates Wireless MMX technology, provides additional performance for 3D games and advanced video. Wireless Trusted Platform provides services such as trusted boot, secure storage of private information and cryptographic keys, as well as support for common security protocols. Battery life is improved by Wireless Intel SpeedStep, which manages voltage and frequency changes. Clock speeds offered vary from 312MHz to 624 MHz with up to 64MB of stacked StrataFlash memory. The PXA27x series is distributed in Australia by Insight Electronics and Braemac.
