Sony’s Vaio PCVA-HVP20 is small, stylish and certainly cool but only offers full functionality when used with Sony PCs. The device contains a 20GB hard disk drive, which can accommodate up to 31 hours of programming, and has a 3.5-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD). Playback of GigaPocket, MPEG1 and MPEG2 files is possible on the device. The software will also convert Windows Media Video and DV AVI files to MPEG2 files before transfer, which means they can be viewed. It measures 84 x 120 x 28mm and weighs 300g. It’s on sale now for about $US455. There were no current plans to sell it overseas, a spokesperson said.
