Research confirms strong company growth for Jan - June 2003

AUSTRALIA, Melbourne, 11 September, 2003 - HP ProCurve Networking Business (PNB) today announced that it has achieved its stated goal of moving from number three to number two position in the Australian LAN Switch Market for January to June 2003, well before its end of year target.

The results, just released from leading IT Market research firm IDC, IDC Australia Local Area Network Hardware Tracker, confirmed HP ProCurve Networking's tremendous first half of 2003

HP ProCurve Networking credits its first half-year growth to an embrace by the Australian market of the company's proposition of value networking products underpinned by true lifetime warranty, quality engineering and a commitment to open standards.

"HP's ProCurve switching products are seeing growth in government and medium enterprise in the price competitive, yet technologically astute market," Joel Martin, Research Director IDC, Australia. "In our analysis of the Australian LAN switch market, HP ProCurve switches have emerged as the number 2 player with 7.5% share, in terms of revenue - an increase of over 300% year-on-year.

The Switch 5300 family series was also credited with contributing strongly to HP ProCurve's results. Since introduction in 2002, it is quickly becoming a thoroughbred in the PNB stable. The 5300 family of products has been recently upgraded to offer greater operability and convergence at an extremely cost-effective price, adding to its sustainability in the market.

"Our customers are clearly telling us that in these times, they place great importance on value for money when making their switch and router purchasing decisions," Paul Fisher, General Manager PNB Asia Pacific and Japan said. "We are also seeing greater sophistication in the purchase decision process with clear rejection of solutions that lock customers into proprietary solutions. Apart from the quality and affordability of our products, it is also through our close relationships with our channel partners that we were able to access our target markets efficiently and effectively in a very short period," added Mr Fisher.

HP ProCurve Networking products, services and solutions -- including Ethernet switches, routing switches, wireless access points and network-management applications -- allow customers to build networks that meet current and future needs for security, performance and reliability.
