Polycom Named Telstra’s Preferred Video Conferencing Supplier

 • 17 November, 2004 09:20

World’s leading conferencing solutions now available on a large scale to the Australian market

Polycom®, Inc (NASDAQ: PLCM), the world’s leader in video and voice conferencing, conference bridges and integrated web collaboration solutions, today announced that it has been selected as a preferred supplier for Telstra’s video conferencing requirements. This agreement means that Telstra customers can now apply for direct access to Polycom’s range of fully integrated, end-to-end video, voice, data and web collaboration solutions.

Telstra will now be able to offer Polycom products and services when quoting a customer’s solution and will promote Polycom as its preferred standard operating environment.

“Polycom has been helping Australians communicate face to face when they just can’t be there in person - because of distance, cost, time restraints or even bad weather conditions - for the last 10 years,” said James Anderson, Polycom’s Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand. “The relationship between Telstra and Polycom means that now, high quality conferencing and video conferencing solutions will be even more accessible to the Australian market.”

The agreement will see the Polycom’s range of conferencing and collaboration solutions available immediately through Telstra outlet stores, opening new market opportunities for Polycom with Telstra’s business customers, SMEs, large corporations, government departments, education facilities and the public sector.

“Communication - in any form, in person, over the phone, via video conference or over the Internet - is crucial to the overall success of any organisation,” said Russell Forbes, General Manager for Telstra Conferencing. “The voice, video and web conferencing services we offer in conjunction with Polycom are helping our customers make the most of time and maximize business efficiencies.”

The strength of combining the Telstra brand in Australia with the Polycom brand for conferencing is expected to raise awareness for the whole industry and reaffirms the need for conferencing in Australia.

Telstra recently supplied its local advertising and search subsidiary, Sensis Pty Ltd, with Polycom video conferencing equipment and hosts its voice conferencing solution.

“Video conferencing supports our company vision of connecting people, businesses and places,” said Mr Chris Stevens, Sensis Acting Chief Information Officer. “Our nine new video conference units improve communication between our 2,200 staff members and a significant number of our clients across the country.”
