GlobalConnect Australia has expanded its geographical presence with the purchase of the converged solutions division of Sirius Telecommunications for $ 1.2 million.
The NSW-based IP telephony integrator had gained about 20 staff in addition to offices in Victoria and South Australia, managing director, Pushkar Taneja, said.
"We've been looking at opportunities to expand our presence and the division we have acquired has similar values to what GlobalConnect has already been working on," he said.
Sirius Telecommunications was one of four local tier-one Avaya partners. GlobalConnect Australia is owned by Avaya GlobalConnect.
Taneja said the expansion was also necessitated by customers that were currently outside the range of its Sydney office and required onsite support.
Taneja, who recently took the reins from Peter Jayaseelan, refused to speculate on whether GlobalConnect would look to ake similar acquisitions in Queensland or WA.
Jayaseelan has returned to parent company, Avaya Global Connect. He had been in Australia since the establishment of a local office in October 2004.
