Computer Associates (CA) management has kicked its love of rugby to new heights by taking on naming rights sponsorship of the Canberra-based Brumbies team until 2007.
The company has been involved with the club for nine of its 10-year history and is currently a foundation-level sponsor.
CA marketing manger, Andy Cooper, said he, like the company, was a union fan.
"Being a Kiwi, rugby is more of a religion," he said. "I grew up playing it and supporting it."
But when it came to supporting the Brumbies, Cooper was a bit cannier.
"I am a fan, but I'm from Wellington so was brought up with the Hurricanes," he said.
Despite this, Cooper claims to have devised a way to have it both ways.
"I'll always support the Brumbies, except when they're playing Wellington," he said. "Then I'll support both equally."
Officially, CA's association would help increase its presence in Canberra, Cooper said. But, more importantly: "They are also one of the greatest sporting teams in Australia and this gives us a chance to be closely aligned with them," he said.
