Cellnet has inked a deal with software vendor, Travroute, to distribute its range of portable GPS navigation products in Australia.
The distributor will carry the CoPilot Live Pocket PC version 5 software release, as well as its newly released Live Smartphone GPS navigation system. The latter product provides Microsoft Windows-based smartphones with a GPS guidance and navigation application platform.
Cellnet general manager of its consumer products division, Peter Laver, said the software tied in with its plans to distribute innovative consumer products.
While Travroute has worked with several distributors for its previous in-vehicle navigation products, its managing director, Andrew McCrudden, said Cellnet would be driving the launch of its smartphone software locally.
"Seeing as they are a major distributor of mobile hardware, they were a good choice for us," he said.
McCrudden said the company had no plans to appoint additional distributors to Cellnet at this point in time. However, Travroute was in discussions with several telcos to develop customised applications using the CoPilot smartphone platform, he said.
