Wyse Technology, thin client market leader in Australia and New Zealand, has released an expandable, high performance Winterm 941GXL device able to run complex, CPU-intensive applications on the desktop.

The Winterm 941GXL provides fast execution of local applications while still performing through traditional network server capabilities, said Senior Engineer Simon Le Comte.

According to Mr. Le Comte, the new Winterm device is ideally suited for environments such as point of sale (POS) where local application support is critical and extensive peripheral support, legacy ports and USB ports are necessary for bar coding, scales or scanning equipment.

“The Winterm 941GXL runs local applications as well as server based applications,” said Mr. Le Comte.

“For example, if a national network ever goes down, the Winterm 941GXL enables branches or stores to run a local POS application without risking any transactions or compromising data security over the longer term,” he said.

For applications that run on servers, a 233MHz thin client is usually adequate for a PC-like user experience. However, Mr. Le Comte says users who are executing some applications locally will need the 1GHz processing speed of the Winterm 941GXL.

The Winterm 941GXL includes a Windows® XP Embedded operating system, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and unparalleled support for multimedia applications. Available in Australia and New Zealand now, the Winterm 941GXL retails at $AU 1,059 for a Flash/RAM memory configuration of 192F/256R and $AU 1,139 for a Flash/RAM memory configuration of 256F/256RAM. Custom configurations may include peripheral options such as CD-ROM, floppy drive, PCI-PCIMCIA adaptor, additional 256MB RAM, wall mounting bracket, desktop stand and external USB wireless Wi-Fi 802.11b.
