Health insurer NIB Holdings has moved its core systems of record onto Amazon Web Services (AWS) via CMD Solutions.
The migration, which completed in September, primarily focused on NIB’s corporate health insurance business GU Health and a comes as part of NIB’s ongoing transition into the public cloud.
Sydney-based CMD Solutions was largely tasked with developing a watertight governance and compliance system to protect users’ data over a period of several months.
“Migrating our core insurance systems is a significant step forward in our cloud migration to AWS, which started only four years ago,” NIB CIO Brendan Mills.
“We’ve built our maturity through this multi-year phased adoption by working with our partners and the regulator, and now are confident about safely running our most critical workloads on the platform without compromising our risk and security posture.”
According to NIB, the move is one of the earliest migrations of an insurance system of record to the cloud in Australia.
“The use of modern cloud architecture and security tooling ensures customer data is secure without compromising on agility,” CMD Solutions CTO Adam Durbin said.
“This project has required a high level of technical and regulatory detail to enable its success. It’s been a great achievement for NIB and we’re really pleased to have been a part of the journey.”
According to Mills, the insurer plans to continue investment in cloud and serverless technologies, a new mobile app plus wearable technology.
Launched in 2015, CMD Solutions has been working with AWS and NIB for some time and wassnapped up by Melbourne start-up Mantel Group earlier this year.
It now has AWS competencies including DevOps, security, well-architected review and more recently end-user computing.
