Microsoft Australia has appointed Rachel Bondi to the role of general manager of its partner organisation, effective immediately.

Bondi has been Microsoft Australia chief operation officer since January 2016, where she has been responsible for all COO functions including centralised marketing, programs and communications for all Microsoft products and services to Australian customers.

She first joined the software giant in 1997 as a partner account manager and said that one constant in the organisation is that partners are at the core of Microsoft.

"And I’m simply thrilled that this opportunity has brought me full circle to lead this incredible business in Australia," Bondi wrote in a blog post.

From 1999 until 2004, Bondi worked for Microsoft in Seattle, she later moved to the vendor's headquarters in Redmond, also in the US, where she was general manager for integrated marketing for Skype, Office, OneDrive and Outlook.

She returned to Australia in 2016 as COO, a role she held until 6 May.

Bondi said that the role of the Microsoft partner ecosystem has never been more critical.

"The 10,000-plus partner organisations across Australia can advance Australia’s innovation, skills and capabilities and propel customers to take full advantage of the opportunities the digital age is affording them," she said.

"Whenever you start a new leadership role, there are many feelings – trepidation, excitement and for me, a kind of electricity in the air at the sheer scale of the possibilities ahead. So where to draw the starting line?

"For me, it is advocating the criticality of driving shared prosperity and responsibility. It will take a one Microsoft approach across Australia, Asia and our corporate teams," Bondi added.

"Together we need to work with our partner community and business leaders to ensure we are building organisations with the digital skills and vision to transform. I believe that investing in partners is critical for the future, to ensure we have the skills and capability to match Australia’s potential."

Mark Leigh who's been acting as both Microsoft Australia One Commercial partner lead and general manager of public sector, will be the vendor's public sector lead for Microsoft Australia.

Leigh took on the role of One Commercial partner lead in August 2017, who was previously Microsoft’s small, mid-market solutions and partners director in Australia.

Microsoft has started the recruiting process for the COO role and will have more to announce at a later date.
