Looking to jump into the WAN acceleration market, TechPlus Distribution has picked up a deal with US-based hardware vendor, Orbital Data.
Managing director, Paul Kern, said the company had been searching for a suitable vendor for some time.
"WAN acceleration is very strong in the Australian market at the moment," he said. "Juniper and Riverbed are the two main vendors here, but in the US Orbital Data is a major player. It hasn't really pushed out much further than that but we just happened to enquire at the right time."
Kern estimated the new line would produce about $2 million in annual revenue and said he would focus on targeting the storage market.
"It will fit in with companies focused on disaster recovery," he said. "Another market Oribtal has been very strong in is with corporations such as Disney and Time Warner, which shift large volumes of data around the world."
Kern said he would consider bundling WAN acceleration with Quality of Service products and monitoring appliances. The distributor is also aiming to bring on more SME resellers to focus on the range.
"Some of our existing dealers will identify with it but we will look for a suite of new resellers to champion the product," he said.
