Dell Computer Corp. has outgrown its name, according to a recent filing with the US Securities Exchange Commission.
The company that was founded on computer systems Michael Dell sold from his dormitory room was asking its stockholders to vote to change the company’s name from Dell Computer Corp. to Dell Inc. The company’s board says a name change will better reflect Dell’s growth into other areas such as networking and storage.
Most users, the company says, recognise the company simply as Dell.
A name change will require a majority vote of Dell stockholders at its annual meeting on July 18 in Austin, Texas.
