The magicolor 2300W from Minolta-QMS is small enough to fit comfortably on the desktop. Aimed at SME and SOHO customers, the 2300W colour laser printer features 32MB of RAM, monochrome print speeds of 16ppm, colour print speeds of 4ppm, and print resolutions of 1200 x 600dpi (fine) and 600 x 600dpi. The 2300W operates with Microsoft Windows 98SE/2000/ME and XP, and comes with USB and parallel connections. It also supports Microsoft ‘plug and play’ and comes with a straightforward installer for simple installation. The printer has a duty cycle of 35,000 pages per month and its toner cartridges yield up to 4500 prints each. The magicolor 2300W is distributed in Australia by Alloys International and Tech Pacific.

Targetted at SMEs, the Epson Aculaser C900 is an entry-level colour laser printer that features a small footprint and offers print speeds of 16ppm (pages per minute) for black and 4ppm for colour (A4 full colour). The C900 uses Adaptive Data Compression to optimise print data compression and reduce print times. It automatically determines the most suitable type of compression for the images being printed (text, photos and line drawings). It features 80MB RAM, optional 10/100base-TX network card, 600x600dpi resolution and up to 2400dpi for 24-bit full colour photo printing. The C900 comes with a standard 200-sheet paper tray, bi-directional parallel and USB port interfaces and a one-year onsite warranty. It supports Windows 95/98/2000, XP, Windows NT 4.0, Mac OS 8.1 or later and Mac OS 9.x. Small and lightweight, the HP colour LaserJet 1500 is designed to make colour laser printing affordable for SMEs and SOHOs. The LaserJet 1500 features colour print speeds of 4ppm and 16ppm in black with HP’s ImageREt 2400 and 600 x 600dpi. The 1500 supports Windows 98/2000, Me, XP, Mac OS 9and OS X platforms. It comes with 16 MB of standard memory, a 125-sheet multipurpose input tray and a 250-sheet input tray in addition, and 125-sheet output bin sheets. The printer has a duty cycle of 30,000 pages per month. The HP colour LaserJet 1500 is distributed in Australia by Synnex, Tech Pacific, Exceed, Ingram Micro and Digiland.

The Oki C5100 network colour laser model features colour print speeds of 12ppm and monochrome speeds of 20ppm and resolution of 600x1200dpi. Best suited to small businesses, the Oki C5100 uses single-pass technology and offers 32MB standard memory, TCP/IP network connectivity as well as 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet with internal Web Server. It features a Windows host-based printing system and supports Windows 95/98/98SE/ME, Windows NT 4.0, 2000 and XP. The Oki C5100 toner cartridges yield up to 5000 pages at 5 per cent density while the drum units can produce about 22,000 A4 pages in a continuous print. The C5100 is distributed in Australia by Tech Pacific, Cellnet Tel (IT Wholesale), XIT Distribution, BBF (Bluechip), Zitech, Integral Business Systems, Network Office Supplies and Atrix.

Canon’s first colour laser printer for the consumer market, the Canon LBP-2410 is ideal for small inhouse print runs such as brochures, presentations, flyers, newsletters and web prints. It prints in black at 16ppm at up to 9600 x 600 dpi and prints in colour at 4ppm with no warm-up time required. Its toner cartridges can yield up to 5000 pages and the printer’s consumables can be easily replaced from the front of the unit. Using Canon’s unique Hi-SCoA compression technology, the LBP-2410 stores 8MB of memory (no additional memory required). The LBP-2410 is capable of printing various types of media including plain paper, heavy paper and envelopes, and can be used as a network printer on Ethernet network environments by installing an optional network card (10Base-T/100Base-TX). It has a USB 2.0 High Speed interface and supports Windows 98, Me, 2000 and XP (Mac not supported).
