Aruba partners with Siemens for network integration

Partnership aims to bridge the IT and operational technology worlds

Aruba has entered into a global partnership with Siemens to integrate their networks for businesses with legacy systems.

The deal, which will be effective in Australia, aims to bridge the gap between operational technology (OT) and IT systems using Siemens’ Ethernet network components and Aruba’s infrastructure.

In particular, the partnership will deploy Wi-Fi across factory and office sites, oversee LAN switching and install SD-Branch, a single hardware platform that supports SD-WAN.

Additionally, the pair will provide location-based services using Aruba Beacons, plus edge computing systems.

The partnership will target companies that have traditionally operated in silos.

According to the vendors, the integrated systems will ensure that integrated OT/IT systems can be installed rapidly with ease, operated more securely, and supported more efficiently.

One facet of the integration will be linking Aruba’s 360 Secure Fabric for IT networks to Siemens’ ‘Defence in Depth’ OT security concept.

“Working together for nearly three years, Siemens and Aruba have addressed the OT/IT divide thru technology integration, backed by validated reference designs,” Aruba co-founder and president Keerti Melkote said.

"The resulting solutions are ideal for a variety of industrial applications and are backed by both Siemens’ and Aruba’s support teams."

A spokeswoman for Aruba, which is owned by HPE, told ARN that the partnership currently has two customers in Australia.

“The cooperation between Siemens and Aruba is an important step to complement our industrial networks offering, which is one of the pillars of the digital enterprise, with the additional IT offering from Aruba,” Siemens management board member Klaus Helmrich added.

“Customers will benefit from futureproof, integrated communication networks ensuring availability and security.”
