The City of Fremantle council in Perth employs more than 400 staff and services a community of approximately 30,000 residents.
The council was operating 420 desktops that were reaching end of lease. City of Fremantle needed a provider able to replace those devices, update the operating systems, as the council was running both Windows 7 and 8 and help with the relocation of 200 staff.
Following a comprehensive tender process, Data#3 was selected to provide the full design, planning and deployment services.
To meet the council's requirements, a combination of Microsoft Surface devices and HP desktops were chosen for the project.
Data#3 offered centralised procurement, management and implementation of the devices, including asset tagging, electronic tag and test, and imaging, as well as logistics services for a staged roll out.
The IT solutions and services provider was also responsible for the end-to-end deployment of Microsoft Windows 10 on every device.

A key benefit of the project is the fact that internal IT resources now have hands-on experience in rolling out a new standard operating environment for ease of policy deployment for any future devices, according to Data#3.
With every device running the same operating system, staff has a simpler experience transitioning from desktop to mobile devices if needed.

The Universal Windows Platform enables apps to be configured and deployed only once across multiple devices instead of downloading the same app multiple times.
This not only streamlines the deployment of applications across the organisation, it also helps to reduce IT cost and complexity for the council.
