Cisco Systems has dropped Tech Pacific from its distributor ranks, a disappointed managing director, Kerrie Baillie, confirmed today.
The distributor was culled by the networking giant in a review of its distribution channel which now comprises only LAN Systems and Express Data.
While admitting the loss was “strategically bad” for the distributor, Cisco represented just 4 per cent of Tech Pac’s sales, Baillie said.
The distributor would push on with its networking business unit, Baillie said.
“Our networking business has been going for some time, and we have seven other networking vendor partners," he said. "We would prefer to have kept Cisco, but we will keep working with the vendors who support us.”
Tech Pacific had “made a good start” with its Cisco business, Baillie said.
In May, sales director, John Walters, told ARN that investments in sales and Cisco training had seen the distributor’s networking business grow by 20 per cent.
Tech Pacific will fulfill existing orders for Cisco product , but will not be taking new orders.
Cisco was unavailable for comment at the time of press.
