Australian Internet of Things (IoT) device vendor, Buddy Platform (ASX:BUD), is set to channel all of its sales focus and efforts in Australia into Dicker Data (ASX:DDR) after reseller negotiations with Telstra (ASX:TLS) came to nothing.

Publicly-listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), Buddy Platform makes scalable IoT data aggregation and management infrastructure. Its Ohm offering is designed as a complete resource monitoring solution for commercial, industrial and multi-family residential buildings.

In November last year, the company told shareholders that it was finalising negotiations with Telstra that would have seen Australia’s largest telco become the vendor’s primary sales channel in the country.

Now, the company has revealed that, while it considered the negotiations to be close to being finalised for some time, the two parties were ultimately unable to reach an agreement.

Also in November last year, Buddy Platform revealed that Dicker Data had signed a deal to distribute the vendor’s wares in Australia.

Buddy Platform CEO, David McLauchlan, said at the time that the partnership will help the business expand rapidly in Australia.

Now, with Telstra’s reseller deal off the table, Buddy Platform plans to make Dicker Data the primary distribution channel for Buddy Ohm in Australia. Sales of Buddy Ohm in Australia by Dicker Data have already commenced.

In January, Buddy Platform inked a global distribution deal with Ingram Micro for most regions, except those already covered by previous distribution deals with other partners, such as in Australia, where Dicker Data distributes the company’s products, and in the Caribbean.

In addition to distributing the Buddy Ohm product to resellers globally, the agreement also sees Ingram Micro work with the vendor to develop training programs for sales staff and installation staff; the training programs will themselves be offered as revenue-generating products.

The agreement built upon previously announced nationwide distribution deals with Ingram Micro for Buddy Ohm in both the United States and Canada.
