Targeted at the SOHO market, the Axis 205 from Axis Communications has been touted as the world’s smallest network camera (85 x 55 x 34mm). Unlike Web cameras, the Axis 205 operates independently of a PC and contains a built-in Web server that allows users to assign each network camera a unique IP address so that live images can be accessed from anywhere in the world via the Internet. Featuring an image resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and full frame rate of 30 frames per second, the camera’s main function is to stream real-time video for the remote monitoring of properties or businesses. Users have the option to record and store images to hard disk using the Axis Camera Recorder software. In addition, the device offers dual-level password protection to prevent unauthorized users from accessing images or making changes to the camera system and supports up to 20 users simultaneously. The Axis 205 is distributed in Australia by LAN 1 and Alloys International.
