Samsung Australia head of mobile steps down

Richard Fink departs after one year on the role

Samsung Electronics Australia vice president of IT and mobile, Richard Fink, has stepped down.

Fink will depart the business on 21 July and relocate to Melbourne and pursue new opportunities, the company said.

“It has been a privilege working for Samsung Australia. The company continues to lead the way in innovation, and I have been fortunate to work with talented people to provide great products and services to all Australians. I believe Samsung Australia is set-up well for future success,” Fink said.

Fink joined Samsung in August 2016, replacing Prasad Gokhale who led the IT and mobile business for three years.

“Richard’s drive for the consumer experience has resonated across the business and will ensure that Samsung continues to be a leader in this area in Australia by providing our customers with a seamless experience across all contact points. We wish Richard and his family all the best for the future."

Fink’s experience includes 13 years in telecommunications - he worked for Telstra in executive positions across marketing, category management, supply chain and retail operations.

Before joining Samsung, he was head of store transformation at Coles, a position he was in for about a year.

Fink’s responsibilities included the financial performance of the IT and mobile division. He was also responsible for the development and execution of customer strategy across consumer, business and enterprise segments.

At the time of his appointment, Lee, said: “Today’s competitive smartphone market requires innovative thinking and I believe Richard’s depth of experience and leadership qualities will add another dimension to our business to deliver ongoing success.”

In May, Samsung revealed that corporate vice president and chief marketing officer, Philip Newton, would depart the business on 9 August, after resigning from Samsung Australia following eight years with the company to pursue new opportunities.
