Well-defined integrating

How did the company get started?

Our company was started in 1977 by two of the current directors who were working with IBM and left to start an application software company focusing on IBM midrange computing systems. That business grew between 1977 and 1984 to become Queensland's leading IBM midrange application provider and in 1984 expanded into the PC desktop area with its appointment as Queensland's first IBM PC reseller.

What products and services does your company offer?

The company has grown to become a leading Australian IT integrator. We provide our customers with IT solutions that integrate computing hardware and software from world-leading suppliers with our own specialist design, management, installation, consulting and support services. Our offerings are provided within a well-defined solutions framework of:

Computing solutions. Hardware and software products, and implementation and support services that provide customers with a reliable and managed IT infrastructure.

Networking solutions. Network hardware and software products, design, management, implementation, consulting and support services that extend the IT infrastructure to branches, customers and suppliers via dedicated communications systems and the Internet.

Application solutions. Packaged and tailored application software, and associated implementation and support services that customers use to conduct business.

What proportion of your business is hardware as opposed to services?

Roughly 80 per cent product and 20 per cent services.

How much of a focus is on the networking side of your business and where is this going?

The networking area has been a significant focus and investment for the last two years as the significance of it in terms of overall customer solutions has increased. The emergence of the Internet as a major business driver implicit in Internet solutions is the underlying networking infrastructure.

What are the company's key business strengths?

We're an integrator with a wide range of products and services aimed at meeting a broad range of customer requirements. Our long-term relationships with customers and the way in which we conduct those and ensure we add value is seen with very high customer retention rates. Long-lasting mutually beneficial relationships with the industry's major vendors have also contributed to our credibility in the market and our ability to leverage better outcomes for our customers.

In an industry which is essentially people-oriented, having committed and technically skilled people in the business is fundamental.

What is your attitude to partnering?

Partnering is one of our strengths and we have a demonstrated track record of identifying those organisations in the marketplace with whom we can partner to enhance our customer offerings.

How would you describe your company's management approach?

As a public company we have implemented management processes in line with our need to create ongoing growth in shareholder value. That is to say, we clearly allocate the responsibilities and manage the risks associated with the provision of IT solutions.

What is your five-year company plan?

Our plan is for continued growth at greater than the industry average growth rates as a national IT solutions provider.profileData#3Based: BrisbaneStaff: 420Turnover: $140 million annuallyGrowth: 27 per centServices: Desktop, LAN, WAN and application serviceshttp://www.data3.com.au
