<p>Wednesday, 6 August 2003 (Sydney, Australia): Perth-based internet and email monitoring specialist WebSpy Ltd (ASX: WSY) today released latest versions of the full range of its Internet and email monitoring solutions, making reporting and analysis up to 10 times faster. Data management is also much more efficient and reporting capabilities have been greatly enhanced.</p>
<p>“The latest improvements to our software significantly reduce the amount of resources required to provide an exceptional level of reporting and analysis, as well as freeing up staff time,” said WebSpy CEO Jack Andrys. “For high-end users, for example, the software can now reduce reporting and analysis time from a day’s work to just one hour.”</p>
<p>Monitoring and reporting is much faster because the new proprietary database back-end enables users to make adjustments or additions to aliases (names of users and user groups) or profiles (websites or keyword categories) without having to reload any log file data, which had proved time-consuming in the past. Users no longer have to spend time reloading data simply to update user details. They now have the ability to target and customise the details of new problem sites, users or file downloads ‘on the fly’.</p>
<p>WebSpy’s latest versions support all the major log file formats, now also including Microsoft SQL and Radius. Certain applications also support Gzip compression, and data can be imported directly from FTP, saving time and streamlining the reporting process for remote users.</p>
<p>WebSpy has also made significant improvements to its real-time Internet and email monitoring tool, WebSpy Live. Triggers alerting IT staff to misuse are now capable of providing very specific information, scaleable from a single user accessing a single resource to an entire department’s combined download for a month. A trigger can be as specific as “alert me when a user downloads more than 500Kb of images from the adult content profile”. These enhancements enable IT staff to identify, target and manage the unique needs of their organisation’s network.</p>
<p>Andrys said that while Internet and email monitoring could now be done much more efficiently, these tasks should still be managed with consideration for employees and in conjunction with clearly stated usage policies.</p>
<p>WebSpy has also released the full version of FlowMonitor, the first Windows-based tool to monitor Cisco’s NetFlow traffic. The information can be used for numerous chargeback applications including reconciling billing with Internet Service Providers or, for managed services offices, giving an exact breakdown of client sites’ bandwidth use.</p>

<p>Further improvements to WebSpy Analyzer, Premium and Giga</p>
<p>* A greater variety of log files can now be imported from an even wider range of formats. In many cases, special reporting functions have been added to take advantage of extra information available in certain log file formats. For example, clients who use firewall logs can now view port and protocol information in addition to standard web use data.</p>
<p>* Aliases and profiles have been simplified and a troubleshooting function has been added. Users can run checks to ensure aliases and profiles contain only sensible data. This function helps stop partial keyword matches and similar issues creating confusion and further reduces staff’s maintenance loads.</p>
<p>* The new Report Wizard enables users to specify and filter their data so only the data they wish to look at is processed. The resultant time-saving can be substantial when highly targeted reports are being compiled.</p>
<p>* A simplified user interface with updated navigation, including home, and up and down buttons, takes users seamlessly between different views of the application. URL summaries now show the full URLs of accessed resources as well as a number of other enhancements providing the full details of each user’s Internet and email activity. Log data and configuration files can now be opened or imported by dragging and dropping from Windows Explorer.</p>
<p>Further improvements to WebSpy Live</p>
<p>* WebSpy Live now supports ‘constant state’ monitoring. It can report information or provide triggers that have been activated while Live was shut down. No information is lost and IT staff can track all activity without having to do manual reports as was previously the case. The availability of information saved between sessions of WebSpy Live means log files are scanned for browsing since the time Live was shut down and any alerts that would have been activated during that time are displayed in Live status. This new functionality does not significantly impact available user resources as users can specify how old data needs to be before it is purged from Live. The default is set to 24 hours, but can easily be changed.</p>
<p>* Aliases have been redesigned to include four types - namely user names, site names, file types and departments – which can be used to trigger alerts. Improved profile defaults more accurately categorise browsing activity. Aliases and profiles can be exported and imported via csv (database or spreadsheet) format, making them exportable to any of the WebSpy Analyzer applications. WebSpy Live can now also be synchronised with Analyzer applications so that updates to profiles and aliases are automatically replicated on each piece of software. This option allows many users to halve the time spent maintaining their software.</p>
<p>* The improved user interface gives easier access to all options. Enhancements such as the ‘mark as read’ feature means all current alerts can be dismissed as ‘read’ if a user wishes to focus on new alerts. Management of individual alerts is easier with detailed drill down options available. Or, for a quick overview, a summary of the triggers activated while Live has been running is also available.</p>
