Local IT services player, Viatek, has appointed Nextgen Group’s former wholesale and channel general manager, James Veness, as its new general manager of sales.
The company, which has 23 offices around Australia and provides services across IT, print and telephony, has also promoted its former group CIO, Naran McClung, to group CTO.
According to Viatek, the two newly-created national roles form a critical component in the unification of the company’s business, after a series of acquisitions over the past three years.
In his new role, Veness, has been tasked with the responsibility for establishing and managing Viatek’s national account management structure and its customer service delivery operations.
With sales leadership experience in the telecommunications industry in both Australia and the United Kingdom, Veness has a history of customer-first focus and experience in managing large cross-functional teams in fast-growth companies.
Veness began his career in the telecommunications sector at British Telecom (BT) before relocating to Australia and holding senior sales management roles with TPG, AAPT and Nextgen Group.
In prior role, Veness was directly responsible for the wholesale and channels business within the Nextgen Group, which is now part of fellow telco, Vocus.
McClung, meanwhile, comes to his new role from his former role as Group CIO. Prior to joining Viatek in April 2016, McClung forged his career in the UK, working as a transformation architect for firms including Dimension Data, News Corporation and Royal Bank of Scotland.
For Viatek CEO, Michael Doery, the new appointments are part of a move by the company, which counts Microsoft, SAP, Citrix and ShoreTel among its vendor partner network, to unify its disparate operations across the country.
“After achieving a significant metropolitan and regional presence across the Eastern Seaboard through organic growth and the acquisition of seven technology companies, Viatek has transformed into a unified national operation delivering services to our customers in metropolitan and regional centres,” Doery said. “Our customers are now benefiting from local service delivery, supported by a national service desk and common operational platform.
“The appointments of Naran and James have been critical to the success of our transformation. They bring impressive local and international IT experience from roles in large enterprise organisations, which has already proved invaluable to our senior management team.
