Acer wins $3.3M Govt hardware overhaul deal

The deal sees Acer step in to overhaul the Department’s aging fleet of hardware

The Department of Employment has handed Acer Computer Australia a multi-year $3.3 million contract for the provision of new computer equipment and accessories.

The contract, which runs from May this year to 30 June 2021, sees Acer step in to overhaul the Department’s aging fleet of hardware.

“The procurement of computer equipment from Acer is to replace end of life computers that access the Department of Employment’s network. It is not part of a broader IT project,” a spokesperson for the Department of Employment told ARN.

The contract was awarded via an open tender process, with Acer beating out other suppliers on the federal Government’s ICT Hardware and Associated Services Panel (ICT Hardware Panel) arrangement.

The whole-of-government panel was established for the provision of desktop PCs, mobile PCs, virtual desktop devices (VDDs), monitors and associated services, installation services, servers and server racks.

Other suppliers on the multi-year panel include Data#3, Datacom Systems, Dell Australia, Dimension Data, Ethan Group, Fujitsu Australia, Lenovo, NEC IT Service and Samsung Electronics Australia.

The hardware deal comes just over two months after Canberra IT services provider, Forward IT, was handed its own multimillion-dollar IT hardware deal.

Worth $5.14 million, the three-year contract by the Department of Human Services is for the provision of computer equipment and related accessories.

The terms of that deal see Forward IT provide PCs for the delivery of the Department’s services, according to a spokesperson for the Department, with the contract set to extend until January 2020.

While the details of the hardware provided remains under wraps, the Belconnen-based IT supplier is a Dell Certified Premier Partner, a Dell Enterprise Storage Partner, and an HP Education and Government Partner.
