Report: Microsoft, EA consider buying Sega

Microsoft and Electronic Arts are considering bidding for Sega, according to a recent report in The Wall Street Journal's online edition.

According to the report, the two companies may bid for all or part of the video game developer.

After cutting its profits forecast for 2002 by 90 per cent, Sega this month announced plans to merge with Sammy, a Japanese pachinko (a form of pinball) machine and slot machine manufacturer.

Microsoft UK and Electronic Arts in the UK declined to comment.
