Cyber security vendor, Trend Micro, has named Peter Hewett as its new Channel Director for Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ).

In the newly created role, Hewett will be tasked with partner strategy across all channel partners and distribution in A/NZ to support the vendor’s local growth strategy.

The company operates a 100 per cent channel model but previously partners were handled by the vendor’s enterprise or SMB sales teams, depending on market focus - now all partners will be overseen by Hewett.

Hewett joins Trend Micro from his most recent role as Country Manager at cyber security company, Darktrace, a position he held since June 2015.

Prior to this, Hewett was Managing Director at Kaspersky Labs in Asia Pacific (APAC) and also held Senior Sales roles at Westcon-Comstor and Sophos.

“Trend Micro is looking to double sales in Australia this year, and we are very pleased to have Peter on board as an integral part of our growth strategy,” Trend Micro Managing Director A/NZ, Dhanya Thakkar, said.

“Expanding our focus while ensuring our existing channel is fully supported for success will help us accelerate growth in 2017."

According to Hewett, the changing security landscape has seen new device types, new computing models, and the industrialisation of cyber crime and ransomware that are forcing organisations across all markets to make new IT strategies and investments.

“Trend Micro and its network of resellers are capitalising on this growing business opportunity," he said.

"Our market-leading solutions are powered by the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network, which provides all customers— regardless of size or location—with comprehensive, proactive global threat intelligence and protection.

“This contributes to high customer satisfaction, which in turn generates ongoing renewal revenue and new up-sell opportunities for Trend Micro’s complementary solutions."

The vendor has recently deepened its distribution relationship with distributor, Ingram Micro, adding increased service and support options for its channel partners.

In addition, Trend Micro signed an agreement with Dicker Data to expand its distribution base and partnered with Red Education for partner training in Asia Pacific.

Analyst firm, Technology Business Research recently named the vendor amongst a crop of mid-tier players which were poised to upset the five largest cyber security vendors - Symantec, Cisco, IBM, Check Point and Intel.
