The Register reported on Wednesday it had sighted a message from Cisco VP for cloud platform and services, Kip Compton, to Cisco marketing and communications personnel, announcing the service's termination.
In a statement to CRN (US), Cisco confirmed it had internally communicated that it was discontinuing one of its internal cloud platforms and would be transitioning affected workloads onto other platforms.
"The cloud market has shifted considerably in the last two years, and many of our customers are asking Cisco to help them develop cloud strategies that will help drive their digital transformations … We do not expect any material customer issues as a result of this transition,” the statement said.
The networking giant launched the cloud service in September 2014, with its senior vice president of global Cloud sales and go to market, Nick Earle, telling ARN that the company wanted its MSP and SI partners to have a unified, international cloud platform they could resell and rebadge, but still offer tailored solutions geographically – keeping mission critical (or legislatively bound) data in-country.
However, the company was not able to keep up with the dominant public cloud providers such as AWS, and now looks to focus on other parts of its business.
ARN contacted Cisco for comment but the company had not responded at the time of publication.
