Software vendor Tarantella has dumped distributor MPA Systems and made Tardis Distribution its sole distributor in Australia.
Regional sales manager for Tarantella, David Luthje, said the company - the only unit of SCO not acquired by Caldera in 2000 - was ‘in its infancy’ as a standalone entity.
Luthje said that, as such, Tarantella would receive better service from a single distributor.
“When you have multiple distributors, they tend to use your marketing dollars to compete on price rather than grow the business,” he said.
Luthje said Tardis had shown that it could grow Tarantella’s business in Australia, whereas MPA has never shown any intention to pursue such growth.
“Tardis have the credentials and the attitude to make this product grow,” he said.
While the agreement meant Tardis had become the sole distributor of Tarantella in Australia, Luthke said the agreement was not exclusive.
“We are yet to determine whether another distributor is required in New Zealand,” he said. “I certainly don’t want any more distributors in Australia.”
