​Avnet accelerates local growth with deepened channel support

Avnet has announced three internal promotions to its local executive team, as the distributor deepens its specialist support for the Australian channel.

Following a company restructure, Adrian Chu, Winston Wong and Paul Oxley have taken on director roles covering Customer Solutions, Next-Generation and Data Centre Solutions respectively.

The move follows news that the distributor is fine-tuning its solutions specialist support worldwide, designed to accelerate growth in software-driven technologies.

Globally, Avnet now has over 450 solutions specialists on board, providing channel expertise in Cloud, cognitive computing, data analytics, the Internet of Things (IOT), mobility, security and enterprise networking.

“At Avnet in Australia and New Zealand we are very excited about this move to a new solutions specialist approach to accelerate growth in software-driven technologies,” Avnet A/NZ vice-president and general manager, Darren Adams, told ARN.

According to Adams, the creation of new specialist business units will cover Datacentre Solutions; Cloud Solutions; Security and Enterprise Networking Solutions and Data Analytics, Cognitive Computing and IO.

“This will allow us to draw from our already mature and experienced Cloud and Managed Services business as well as to ensure that we are leveraging our state of the art integration capabilities,” he explained.

“In short, we will be helping our suppliers and business partners intercept growth in next generation technologies, while at the same time maintaining the superior customer service that the A/NZ channel community has come to expect from Avnet.”

Adams said Avnet has a “proven track record” through its core datacentre business that helps differentiates partners from competitors and drives profitable growth.

Through the creation of new specialist business units, Adams said Avnet will leverage the company’s vertical market solutions practices in the Americas, its Security and Networking Solutions business in EMEA as well as its Cloud solutions around the world.

“Avnet is directing significant energy, resources and investments toward the technologies that will define the future,” Avnet global president of Technology Solutions, Patrick Zammit, added.

“I believe the best way to do this is through a more specialised approach. We are evolving into a solutions specialist to ensure that Avnet, along with our suppliers and partners, continues to meet our customers’ needs in a rapidly changing market.

“It will allow us to capitalise on next-generation technologies while optimizing our support for data center technologies, whether legacy or new.”

Additionally, Zammit said in EMEA and the Americas a sixth specialist business unit, Education Services, will focus on flexible training solutions with a portfolio of offerings across Avnet suppliers.

While the specialist business units are similar in structure globally, Zammit said they are led regionally to accelerate execution and align with local partner needs.

As part of the new solutions specialist approach, Avnet provides its business partners with dedicated expertise whether the partner is focused on a single technology or requires solutions comprising multiple technologies.

“Those in Avnet’s channel ecosystem can expect to see more proprietary tools, services and solutions around the next-generation technologies, such as the Avnet Cloud Marketplace and Avnet’s innovative IOT collaborations,” Zammit explained.

“Today’s customers expect their partners to understand business outcomes and the software, services and hardware needed to deliver results.

“The solutions specialist approach gives our partners and suppliers the best of both worlds: a business solutions mindset coupled with deep technical expertise in the datacentre and next-generation technologies.”
