Dell revenue, income continues rise

Dell Computer has posted strong fourth-quarter and full-year earnings on the back of increased shipments worldwide.

Fourth-quarter net income was $US603 million for Dell's fiscal year 2003 fourth quarter that ended January 31. This compared to $US456 million in the previous year's fourth quarter.

Revenue was $US9.74 billion for the fiscal year 2003 fourth quarter, compared to $US8.06 billion in the last year's fourth quarter.

For the full 2003 fiscal year, Dell posted net income of $US2.12 billion on revenue of $US35.4 billion. In 2002, the company posted net income of $US1.78 billion on revenue of $US31.2 billion, excluding a special charge tied to job reductions.

Compared to last year's fourth quarter, shipments of PowerEdge servers increased 28 per cent, shipments of Inspiron and Latitude notebooks were up 33 per cent, and shipments of Dimension and OptiPlex desktops jumped 24 per cent.
