HostGenius, the Web-hosting arm of Google partner and Google Apps platform integration consultant, itGenius, has acquired Speedhost.com.au in an amicable deal.
HostGenius managing director, Peter Moriarty, told ARN that the company was approached by the vendor as the owner and Moriarty’s personal friend, was looking to sell the business.
According to Moriarty, the deal cost "less than six figures".
“We sat down together and found that the businesses were very well aligned in the service we were providing, the back-end infrastructure and the kinds of customers we had on board,” he said.
“Our customers are small businesses who want their businesses to load faster so they can rank better on Google. We both had very similar philosophies in how both of the businesses were being run and we will be increasing our customer base by about 40 per cent - a decent size jump size."
Moriarty described the company’s typical target market customer as an "entrepreneurial small business owner who is savvy about marketing, SEO and probably uses Wordpress".
He said the acquisition will also help HostGenius to internally grow and invest in more resources and infrastructure.
“Also, the customers of SpeedHost that will now become apart of the HostGenius family, will also get the benefit of being supported by a larger business and can expect slight speed improvements by moving over to HostGenius’ platform,” he said.
The integration process is expected to be complete by the end of June.
Interestingly, both of our platforms were very similar, but obviously there was no point in building two walls, so we decided to bring the Speedhost customers onto our platform. There is some infrastructure we need to wind down from the Speedhost site,” he added.
