Global information technology, Unisys, has officially opened its new service desk in Rhodes, Sydney.
Under the GovConnectNSW brand, the service desk looks to provide centralised IT support services to NSW Government departments and agencies.
Minister for Finance, Services and Property, Dominic Perrottet, officiated the opening. He said the partnership with Unisys means public servants will have access to the latest IT technology and faster turnaround times, enabling them to provide better service to the people of NSW.
Member for Drummoyne and Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Rhodes, John Sidoti, said the service desk is also a boost for Sydney’s inner-west as it has created 128 new local jobs at the facility.
The launch of the new service follows the June 2015 contract between the NSW Government and Unisys to replace the ServiceFirst legacy IT platforms with a higher performance, on-demand consumption-based model.
The transition from ServiceFirst to GovConnectNSW is expected to be formally completed in March 2016.
Unisys vice-president and general manager for enterprise solutions, Tony Windever, said, “In digital transformation stages, the focus is now really on building and planning as we go. We have started to move the environment from Global Switch over to the GovDC datacentre and are planning with the chief information officers and stakeholders in the agencies on what this will look like.”
“We continue to learn and listen and make sure we are being responsive and adaptive and are building the environment alongside the vision the government has for the solution moving forward,” he added.
