iOS 9.1 is here, complete with new emojis

Apple Watch owners can also get new emoji characters by upgrading to watchOS 2.0.1.

The moment you’ve been waiting for has finally arrived: iOS 9.1 is available to download, which means you have a slew of new emoji characters to choose from.

The best ones: taco, burrito, cheese wedge, unicorn, champagne bottle, and the long-awaited middle finger. Time to go crazy.

While the new emoji are the most noticeable change in iOS 9.1, Apple also packed in bug fixes like Live Photos no longer capturing the seconds when you raise and lower your hand as part of the moving image. That flaw has ruined many a great Live Photo since the new iPhones debuted last month, so the small fix was a necessary one.

If you plan to buy a new Apple TV when it goes on sale October 26, you’ll need to upgrade to iOS 9.1 in order to set it up.

To install iOS 9.1, go to Settings > Software Update and install it over the air, or connect your device to a computer and upgrade using iTunes.

Apple Watch owners also got an update today with watchOS 2.0.1. The same new emoji you see on your iPhone are also available on the watch, which is a relief. There are also a few bugs the watchOS upgrade fixes, like issues causing stalled software updates on the watch and issues with battery performance, though Apple didn’t say exactly what those issues were. Calendar syncing glitches between the iPhone and watch have also been fixed, and now using Siri to start a workout won’t keep the heart rate sensors on forever.

Update your watch by opening the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and tapping My Watch > General > Software Update. Make sure your watch is in Bluetooth range of your iPhone and connected to its charger.
