Local components and peripherals space is to be reshaped following the signing of a deal that will see distributors, BBF and Bluechip Infotech (formerly Servex), merge the operations.
Although the details of the arrangement have not been released, it is understood that homegrown BBF made a significant investment in majority foreign-owned, Bluechip, the company originally spun off by Acer Inc in Taiwan.
The speculation was confirmed by managing director of Bluechip Infotech, Johnson Hsuing, who told ARN Daily that “the company split was 33 per cent local and 67 per cent overseas, but that has now changed”.
Unwilling to shed more light on the deal reportedly sealed last week, Hsuing nevertheless said the two entities would continue to operate separately until the end of the year.
“The impact on the channel and our vendors would be too significant if we proceed [with the operational merger] immediately, so nothing will change until 2004,” Hsuing said.
BBF’s Michael Muscat was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
