A service pack for Microsoft's Visual Studio 6.0 products is scheduled to be available by the end of the month, the company announced last week.
The service pack will address specific binary compatibility conflicts between run-time redistributable files in prior versions of the Visual Studio development system. Information explaining the bugs that this service pack will address is available at http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/sp/.
As with all service packs, Microsoft recommends that developers install the current service pack before releasing applications developed with Visual Studio so they can redistribute the latest run-time files.
The service pack will be available free to developers through a Web download or Web order form. Customers of Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition will automatically receive the service pack upon release provided the customer has sent in the in-box fulfillment voucher. MSDN Universal and MSDN Professional subscribers will also receive the service pack automatically.
