net-Box appoints distributors

Brisbane-based security manufacturer Oxcoda has appointed VXL and Whitegold Solutions to distribute its net-Box network protection appliance in NSW. The manufacturer has held technical training seminars with both companies and is also involved in negotiations with several other potential distributors around the country. “We are very pleased to have signed these companies up and are confident of the business they will generate,” said Jonn Ryan, sales and marketing manager for Oxcoda. He said net-Box was attracting interest from overseas but would not be shipped until the domestic market was adequately covered. “The product has been six years in development and I do not want to jeopardise our chances by getting offshore greedy. That is a trap you can fall into,” Ryan said.

SurfControl offers free alerts

Web and email filtering specialist SurfControl has launched a free service to inform network managers of security threats. Network Risks is a Web site and listserv that provides regularly updated information on new viruses and hoaxes, offering information about each risk and ways to tackle the problem with SurfControl products. The service will be updated whenever a new threat is detected. Users who sign up to the service will be given real-time email alerts.

NAS tie broadened

Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Microsoft are expanding their partnership on NAS (network attached storage) products in an effort to boost sales and improve products. The two-and-a-half year-old partnership for Windows Powered NAS products will now include joint training of engineers and aligned sales and marketing teams. Sales partners would also get access to implementation blueprints and case studies, Zane Adam, director of product management and marketing at Microsoft’s Enterprise Storage division, said. HP and Microsoft have their eyes set on businesses looking to cut back the number of servers they run and add storage hardware.
