In the year of its 25th anniversary, Dicker Data is expanding its distribution turf to include Melbourne and Brisbane in an effort to gain greater traction among independent retailers.
General manager Fiona Dicker said the process will start out slowly, with one person in each location and a conservative physical presence.
The move is designed to offer greater support to independent retailers for HP’s popular Compaq Presario range of desktop PCs and notebooks, which Dicker won exclusive distribution rights to earlier this year alongside Tech Pacific.
Having secured 46 per cent of Compaq/HP computer sales in NSW, the distributor hopes to increase its market share in Victoria and Queensland, and build closer working relationships with existing customers.
Because the main thrust is around the HP product set, Dicker said the growth is more likely to be incremental than a case of muscling in on existing players’ turf. “We’re the only one’s that take care of [Presario] in the channel,” she said.
The offices are expected to be up and running within weeks, with the recruitment of staff currently underway.
“We really want someone who is capable of creating a strong committed presence in each state,” said Dicker. “Someone who offers great customer service and who is reliable and ethical.”
